Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis Review

It's very reassuring to see a quality adventure show up every now and then, especially of the good old point-and-click style. Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis is the sequel to a mildly successful title, which even though didn't bring anything new to the genre table, still made a good impression on the crowds by following the path of the adventure genre very well.

Gameplay

Puritas Cordis starts shortly after where the original Secret Files left off – with the two main characters split up in their own searches of adventure around the world, they soon find themselves reunited for good or bad, as they're facing yet another mystery that starts with a murder.

As an adventure game, it offers plenty of puzzles for you to explore, some of which even have alternate solutions (which isn't that usual for the genre). Sometimes you'd feel stuck and eventually find out that the solution has been right in front of you the whole time – some of the puzzles have been very cleverly designed and will leave you with a humble smile after you've managed to get through them.

The controls are solid and intuitive, and it's easy to explore the world and find the items you need if you put some thinking to it. The storyline and writing are superb and will leave you guessing to the end. There's a very subtle and tasteful touch of grim humor all around that takes a special kind of mindset to truly appreciate – and fans of the first game will surely love it. You may eventually get frustrated with some of the puzzles later on in the game, as they tend to be somewhat illogical at times (though still not impossible), but just remember that the solution is usually more obvious than you might think.

Graphics and System Requirements

SF2:PC offers clean, 3D graphics – we know what you're probably thinking, very few games have managed to be successful by combining point-and-click gameplay with a 3D world, but believe us, once you've seen what the game's developers have done with the world and characters (especially the characters!) you'll quickly fall in love with Puritas Cordis. The lighting is great, with sources of varied colors illuminating the areas and putting an accent on the important items where needed.

The 3D engine is light on computers as well – remember that the game runs on the Wii, after all. You'll just need a video card with moderately good 3D capabilities, as well as the standard 1GB of RAM and you'll be good to go. It's not very CPU-intensive so your processor shouldn't matter much.

Other

Even though Puritas Cordis lends itself to using walkthroughs at more than one points, we strongly advise you to refrain from doing so – the game's puzzles are actually all very logical and will make you feel rewarded.

Conclusion

Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis may be truly enjoyable only for dedicated fans of the genre – but it also has the great potential to pull new ones in – so if you like it, spread the word!
